Britons 'seeking debt advice'
Britons 'seeking debt advice'
Tuesday 6th January 2009
The survey from moneyexpert.com found that 13 per cent of UK adults have asked for help with debts, although it also suggests that many people with financial worries are still hesitating to ask for professional advice.
According to the study, 51 per cent of people who said they were very concerned about their ability to cope with current debt levels have still not consulted an adviser.
Sean Gardner, director of moneyexpert.com, commented: "The fact that one in eight adults has sought debt help shows that debt advice is a growing industry and demonstrates that there is help out there.
"We'd advise everyone who is concerned to seek help early."
Consumer affairs minister Gareth Thomas also recently urged struggling Britons to seek financial advice sooner rather than later.
The MP said that guidance from experts can "really make a difference when it comes to resolving debt problems".
