Lack of debt help ‘forced’ Dannii Minogue to strip for Playboy
Dannii Minogue has recently revealed that the pressure of her severe debt problems forced her into posing nude in a photo shoot for Playboy magazine. The pop-singer turned X-Factor judge was married to actor Julian McMahon but when the couple’s marriage ended acrimoniously, the ensuing financial strife prompted Minogue to get her kit off for the magazine in 1995, appearing on the front cover.
Dannii owed in excess of £150,000 to a variety of creditors and although the obvious solution would’ve been to borrow the money from her big sister Kylie. Instead, she decided to take the lucrative offer from Playboy, much against the wishes of her family. In the recent television interview, Dannii opened up to Piers Morgan about the debt problems that pushed her to these lengths. She also said that although her parents were very much against the idea, Kylie was actually quite supportive and understood why it was that she’d found herself in this situation and also why Dannii didn’t want to come to her for the money.
The problem of debt is a common one but it’s also one which remains dogged by a certain degree of stigma. This is why lots of people, even celebrities like Dannii Minogue, refuse to admit to themselves and their loved ones that they’re in trouble. She openly admitted to Morgan and the nation that she should have been taking better care of her finances and keeping an eye on her level of debt. This is excellent advice for everyone. Failure to monitor your level of debt can have extremely serious consequences. The sooner you do face up to the problem of spiralling debt, the more likely you are to find a solution to the problem and avoid severe penalties. Bankruptcy can cost you your home and other assets and posing for Playboy isn’t an avenue that is open to all of us. Even if it was, would you want to?
Dannii Minogue maintained that she didn’t regret the experience at all and had no qualms about posing naked for Playboy magazine. She wouldn’t divulge her fee for the shoot though. All she would reveal was that it was a sum great enough for her to do the shoot in spite of the obvious distress it caused her parents. She did feel some degree of relief in telling people why she had done it. As intimidating as the experience was for her, she did talk of a feeling of liberation. Not just in terms of her nudity but also in knowing that she was freeing herself from the stress of crippling debt.
