Debt Doesn’t Necessarily Break Hearts

Debt Doesn’t Necessarily Break Hearts

High levels of debt would be expected to put strain on any relationship, but appropriately enough after St Valentine’s Day, a recent survey suggests that only a minority of people would split with their partner over hidden debts.

Nearly 80% of people surveyed said that they would forgive their partner if they owned up to substantial debts, and only one in ten said they might break up with their partner.
Most of the people surveyed were honest with their partners about their financial problems. In fact, two thirds said they were completely open with their partners about their debt. One in seven said they wouldn’t mention their debt problems unless asked, and only one in ten confessed to lying to their partners.

The survey, carried out by the credit monitoring service MyCallcredit, perhaps provides more evidence that people in the UK are becoming more complacent about their debt problems.
